BU 442 Cost and Time Management sample papers, unit by unit

Estimates that admit what they are. BU 442 sample work shows how a figure was derived, builds a schedule whose critical path somebody could defend, and reports variance in a way that says what to do rather than only what happened.

How this shelf works

Send the exact assignment or rubric from your classroom and a custom sample written to it lands in 24 to 48 hours, the first one free. BU 442 is Herzing’s Cost and Time Management course. It centers on cost and time management, where a number has to carry the method that produced it and a schedule has to survive being questioned. Searches like "bu 442 unit 4 assignment example", "BU442 sample paper", and "BU 442 unit samples" land on this page.

What BU 442 is really about

Estimating is the part of project management students find least interesting and instructors mark most closely, because an unsupported figure makes every downstream calculation decorative. BU 442 rubrics want the method named, whether analogous, parametric or bottom-up, and the basis stated, since each carries different accuracy and different effort. Ranges are treated as more honest than point estimates early in a project, and a schedule built from single-point durations with no allowance is one that will slip in a way nobody planned for. An unsupported figure makes every calculation downstream of it decorative. Ranges are treated as more honest than point estimates while the information is still thin.

Scheduling is graded on the network rather than the chart. Dependencies have to be real, so a task shown as sequential because it feels orderly rather than because it genuinely cannot start earlier produces a critical path that misleads. Float is expected to be understood rather than reported, since knowing which tasks can slip without consequence is the point of calculating it. Earned value appears in most sections and is assessed on interpretation: the indices say whether a project is behind and over, and the useful sentence is what that combination implies for the remaining work. Float is the point of the calculation rather than a number to report alongside it.

What BU 442’s assessments ask for

Prompts typically supply a project and ask for estimates, a schedule, a budget or a performance analysis. The criteria reward an estimating method stated per element, dependencies justified, a critical path identified correctly, and contingency derived rather than conventional. Earned value questions want the indices calculated and then interpreted, including a forecast for completion with its assumption named. Variance analysis is expected to reach a response, since reporting that a project is behind schedule without saying what would be done about it stops one step short of the assignment. Sections differ on whether earned value is required and on the scheduling software assumed. Variance analysis is expected to reach a corrective response rather than stopping at the gap.

Where students lose points in BU 442

The reliable loss is a figure with no derivation, which turns the rest of the arithmetic into presentation. Second is invented dependencies, producing a critical path that reflects the writer's sense of order rather than the work. Third is contingency set at a round percentage with no basis. Fourth is earned value indices calculated and left uninterpreted. Fifth is a variance reported without a response. Sixth is a chart submitted where a network was asked for, since a bar chart shows dates and hides the logic that produced them, which is what the course is teaching. A bar chart shows dates and hides the logic that produced them, which is what is being taught.

Using a BU 442 sample the right way

Look at where the example states its estimating basis, because that sentence is what makes every later figure defensible and it is the one most drafts omit. Then check the dependencies: each should have a reason it cannot start earlier. Sections differ on whether earned value is required and on what software the schedule is built in, both of which change the deliverable. Tell us the project and what your section requires, and the estimates and schedule come back built on the method it teaches. Each dependency should have a reason the successor cannot start earlier.

How these samples are written

The discipline behind every paper here: the rubric is the outline, each row gets its section, NP case work holds the clinical voice, and anything proctored stays prep-only because the sit is always yours. Send your unit's instructions with a request and the sample matches them, revisions included.

BU 442 questions, answered

How precise should an early estimate be?

Less precise than students expect, and honest about it. A range with a stated basis is better practice than a single figure that implies accuracy nobody has at that stage, and rubrics increasingly reward it. Name the method, say what the estimate rests on, and widen the range where the information is thin rather than committing to a number you cannot defend.

What makes a dependency real?

The successor genuinely cannot start until the predecessor finishes. Tasks are frequently shown in sequence because that is the order somebody imagines doing them, which invents constraints and produces a longer critical path than the work requires. Ask what would actually break if the two ran together, and if nothing would, they are not dependent.

What do the earned value indices actually tell me?

Whether you are ahead or behind and over or under, and together they suggest what to do. Behind and over usually means the plan was optimistic rather than the team slow, and the useful part is the forecast: what the remaining work will cost if performance continues, and what would have to change to land on the original figure. Calculating without interpreting stops short.
